Drew Helge is a sculptor with over 10 years experience working glass. He is currently producing new mixed media work at his studios in Rockford and Chicago.
“I am intrigued by pushing the limits of the material… I work with glass, ceramics, and metal. With glass there is a beautiful interplay between form and texture, light and shadow. Ceramics offers an immediacy in form which allows me to work quickly and intuitively. Metals offer a structural integrity and malleability that I find aesthetically and metaphorically intriguing.”
“My philosophy as a maker… is to accentuate the nature of the material I’m working in. As a designer I’m fascinated by creating dynamic spaces… and as an artist I’m driven to experiment, play, and create!”
“This space in Rockford is equivalent to my lab… I’ve been documenting my work here as research and development, and still view this body as a ‘work in progress’. I’ve always had a passion for design (as opposed to production) and this show specifically shows the evolution of my forms, textures and ideas from the last few years.”
Drew’s production work is found throughout Hyatt Place Hotels and his artwork is in numerous private collections both domestic and abroad.
